Between 31.12.2021 and 31.03.2023, foreign currency deposits held at banks can be converted into a RCC account.
On 01.04.2023, in the Official Gazette No. 32150, the “Communiqué on Supporting the Conversion of Foreign Currency Deposits to Turkish Lira” (No. 2021/14) was amended by the Communiqué (No. 2023/7)”.
According to the amendment, foreign currency deposit accounts and foreign currency participation fund account balances held by domestic real persons in banks, and those held by domestic legal persons between the dates 31/12/2021 and 31/03/2023 can be converted into Turkish Lira at the conversion rate upon the account holder’s request. This applies to balances in USD, Euro, and British Pounds.
Furthermore, the expression “A three-month, six-month, or one-year maturity Turkish lira deposit or participation account will be opened by the bank for domestic real persons and domestic legal persons” has been changed to “The maturity of the Turkish lira deposit or participation accounts to be opened by the bank will be determined in the procedures and principles published by the Central Bank.” This change removes the maturity limitation.
