Value Added Tax (VAT) Rates Amended.
On July 7, 2023, the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette No. 32241 made amendments to the Decree on the Determination of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Rates on Goods and Services.
The changes made are as follows:
- The general VAT rate, which was applied at 18%, has been increased to 20%.
- The VAT rate on goods and services subject to the 8% VAT rate has been increased to 10%.
- Starting from April 1, 2022, the VAT rate on products such as soap, shampoo, detergent, disinfectants, wet wipes (whether impregnated with soap, detergent, or solution), toilet paper, paper towels, paper napkins, and tissues, which were reduced from 18% to 8%, has been reverted back to the general VAT rate. Therefore, these products will now be subject to a 20% VAT rate.
- The discounted VAT rate application for toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss in the same group will continue, and a 10% VAT rate will be applied to these products.
- There has been no change in the VAT rates for foodstuffs and other goods and services subject to the 1% VAT rate.
- The changes will come into effect on July 10, 2023.
