Foreign Currencies in Bank Accounts Between 01.01.2022 and 30.09.2022 Can Be Converted to Currency Protected Deposit Accounts

A Communique on the Amendment to Communique No. 2021/14 regarding the Support for Conversion to Turkish Lira Deposit and Participation Accounts was published in the Official Gazette No. 31969 dated 30.09.2022.

Accordingly, for legal entities, foreign currencies such as US Dollars, Euros, and British Pounds in bank accounts between 31.12.2021 and 30.06.2022 could be converted to Turkish Lira at the conversion rate. This date range has been extended and changed to 31.12.2021-30.09.2022.

The exemption provision in the fourth paragraph of temporary article 14 of the Corporate Tax Law applies to foreign currencies in the balance sheets as of 31.03.2022, with the President authorized to extend this provision to 30.06.2022 and 30.09.2022. Therefore, it is expected that the authority previously used for the foreign currencies in the balance sheets as of 30.06.2022 will also be applied to the foreign currencies in the balance sheets as of 30.09.2022.
